Expository Text and Student Engagement 


Discover ways to help your students analyze complex texts by implementing engaging strategies that incorporate reading, writing, listening, and speaking.  
During this session, we will focus on: ​​
  • ​selecting and teaching vocabulary to foster student comprehension;
  • using cooperative learning structures that help students analyze  texts, 
  • incorporating different levels of text dependent questions into daily lessons, from general understanding to intertextual connections, and
  • embedding the SBAC question frames into every lesson.

In the California Common Core ELA/Literacy Standards, students are expected to ask questions, research topics, analyze texts, and integrate information into their writing and presentations.  Explore strategies to help students through this process, as well as learn how these standards will be tested on the SBAC.
